    Happy Friday Everyone!

I have been so excited to share this recipe with you all for a few weeks now. Did you know Tuesday was national Pizza Day? I may be a few days late, but in honor of national Pizza Day, this Sweet and Spicy Honey Jalapeño Pizza is definitely a winner. Plus, who said pizza only deserves a day of national celebration? Pizza deserves a week in my opinion.. 😉

Why we love this Sweet and Spicy Honey Jalapeño Pizza:

Spicy. Sweet. Cheesy. Pretty much the best flavor combos ever.

Before you think honey on pizza is strange.. you HAVE to give it a try! Seriously. Its SO. GOOD. If you’re anything like me and love sweet and spicy combos, then you’re going to love this pizza!

My favorite pizza place in town, the Blind Onion, serves their pizza with honey. They were the first to introduce me to this unruly way of eating pizza and now I will never be the same. Even my 6 year old daughter can’t get enough of a good honey drizzle on her pizza. She is my little foodie for sure. I wonder where she got that from…

After the Blind Onion introduced me to honey on pizza, I am beginning to see this concept more and more in the pizza making community. Honey is definitely becoming a popular pizza topping and I promise… its DELICIOUS.

This Sweet and Spicy Honey Jalapeño Pizza came together when I wanted to combine all of my favorite pizza flavors: Spiciness, sweetness and of course- EXTRA cheesy goodness. And let me tell you… the combination is AMAZING. Please don’t be weirded out by honey on pizza; I promise it totally works.

Another reason why I love this recipe? The pizza dough and the pizza sauce are both from scratch. We use this pizza dough and sauce all the time when we are making homemade pizza and it never disappoints!

Not quite feeling the honey Jalapeño combo? No worries! You can TOTALLY change out the toppings to your liking. The great thing about pizza is that it is so versatile and so fun to make it your own. So feel free to have fun with the toppings.

So first things first… Lets talk about this delicious from scratch pizza dough…

How to make homemade pizza dough:

Pizza dough is SO easy and only requires a handful of pantry ingredients. You will never buy store bought pizza dough again!

    Start by proofing the yeast.

For this pizza dough I used active dry yeast, which will require the yeast to proof, or “bloom” for 10 minutes. If you have instant yeast, there is no need to proof the yeast first and you can go ahead and move on to the next step.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the active dry yeast, sugar and warm water. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes, or until the yeast becomes frothy and bubbly.

Into the same bowl, add the all purpose flour, salt, olive oil and remaining warm water. With a dough hook attachment, mix on medium speed for 5 minutes, until the dough is formed into a ball. The dough should feel slightly sticky to the touch but still pull away from the bowl.

If the dough is too sticky, add 1 tablespoon of flour at a time until it comes together, being careful not to add too much flour.

Cover the dough bowl with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Need a warm spot? Try turning on your oven setting to ‘warm’ and place the bowl on top of the stove.

When the dough has doubled in size make the pizza sauce.

How to make homemade pizza sauce:

This is the BEST homemade pizza sauce and is so flavorful and easy.

    Spices & Herbs Include:

    • Basil
    • Oregano
    • Red pepper flakes
    • Fennel Seeds
    • Fresh and dried garlic
    • onion powder

In small bowl add 1 (6 ounce) can of organic tomato paste, warm water, fresh grated parmesan cheese, honey, and all spices and herbs. Season to taste with salt. Allow the sauce to sit for 30 minutes.

In a hurry? Having the sauce sit for 30 minutes is optional. But if you have the extra time, the flavors come out more when the pizza sauce has some time to sit and marinate.

When the pizza sauce and dough are ready, its time to assemble the pizza!

Assembling Sweet and Spicy Honey Jalapeño Pizza:

When the dough has risen, punch down the dough to release the gas and bubbles. Remove the pizza dough from the bowl out onto a clean, lightly floured work surface. Knead the dough a few times and shape the dough into a ball.

Spread a piece of parchment paper on the counter, about a 1 ½ feet long. Place the dough ball on the parchment paper and roll/stretch the dough out until it reaches 14 inches round, or rectangle. It may help to tape the corners of the parchment paper so that it doesn’t move around too much while shaping. Just don’t forget to remove the tape before baking!

Fold over the edges of the pizza dough to form a crust. Lightly brush the edges of the crust with olive oil.

Evenly spread out all the pizza sauce over the pizza dough.

    Top with cheese and toppings.

Preheat oven to 500 degrees F. Place a pizza stone or a cast iron skillet in the oven and allow the cast iron to heat up with the oven. Be careful, its going to be really hot! I have a 12×20 vintage rectangle cast iron griddle that I used.

Don’t have cast iron? No worries! Although I recommend getting a cast iron griddle or pizza stone (the results are more like pizza restaurants), you can also do this in a cookie sheet as well. Just heat up the cookie sheet in the oven like you would a pizza stone.

I recommend cutting out the parchment paper exactly how big you need it to fit correctly, being mindful of where you want the crust to be formed to avoid making the pizza dough bigger than the cookie sheet or pizza stone. You don’t want to lose any delicious toppings or have any overhang! Plus, it will make it easier to transfer the pizza to the hot stone/cookie sheet once formed.

When the pizza is done being assembled, carefully pick up the parchment paper and transfer the pizza to the hot pizza stone or cookie sheet.

Bake the pizza in the hot oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and browned.

When the pizza is done baking, allow to cool for 10 minutes. Cut into desired pizza slices, and serve with a drizzle of honey!

    DONE.
