Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place 2 cups flour and salt in a food processor and pulse until blended.
Next add 1 cup butter and pulse until the mixture is coarse, like small peas. If needed while pulsing, add just enough ice water to form moist crumbs. Press the mixture into the bottom of a buttered 13x9-in baking pan. Bake until edges are lightly browned, 20-25 minutes.
Remove crust from oven. In a large bowl, combine the apples, 1 cup sugar, cinnamon and ground cloves. Stir well. Spoon the apples over the crust.
