This Spiced Apple Rum Old Fashioned is perfect for the fall and winter months. Made with apple cider, spiced rum and maple. Perfect for the holidays!
The holiday’s are fast approaching which means it’s cocktail season; and what better way to start it off than with this cozy spiced apple rum old fashioned.
I love creating, photographing and sharing fun cocktail recipes with you all. There is just something special about an easy and delicious cocktail that looks and feels fancy for the holidays. We love how simple and festive this spiced apple rum old fashioned is, requiring only a few ingredients to mix up and serve to your guests.
Spiced Apple Rum Old Fashioned Ingredients:
This cocktail is so easy- requiring only a handful of ingredients. Perfect for the holidays when you have guests to impress and entertain! Everyone will love this simple, delicious cocktail.
Here is what you will need:
- apple cider– look for good quality (preferably organic), apple cider. I love to use the spiced cider from Trader Joe’s because it’s perfectly spiced and full of flavor.
- spiced rum– spiced rum pairs perfectly with the apple cider and makes this cocktail so cozy! I recommend getting a good quality spiced rum for this cocktail.
- maple– the real stuff! No artificial maple here. For this recipe, instead of making a simple syrup, the maple is used to add sweetness and an extra layer of fall and winter coziness.
- ground cinnamon for dusting
- sliced apple, rosemary stems and cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)
What is an Old Fashioned?
An Old Fashioned is usually made with bourbon whiskey, simple syrup and orange bitters. I opted out of the bitters for this apple rum old fashioned, but feel free to add a few if you have them on hand. Giving this cocktail more of a fall and winter twist, instead of making a simple syrup, I added pure maple syrup to give it sweetness and depth.
As much as I love bourbon, I really wanted to give this Old Fashioned more richness and spice, so I went with a spiced rum. If you don’t have spiced rum on hand or would rather keep this Old Fashioned more traditional, bourbon whiskey always works great.
Making the Spiced Apple Rum Old Fashioned:
In a low glass (or cocktail shaker), combine the apple cider with the spiced rum and pure maple syrup. Add an ice cube if desired, and top with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, fresh apple slices, cinnamon sticks and fresh rosemary stems for garnish. Drink and enjoy!
