Jump to RecipeDo you love banana bread? If so, then you are going to love this dark chocolate banana bread!
Happy Tuesday, everyone! I figured everyone’s Tuesday could use a little more chocolate. So today I’m sharing this decadent Double Dark Chocolate Banana Bread.
But first things first, how was your Valentines Day?!
We had such a wonderful weekend celebrating good friends, card games, good food and lots of love. We’re not huge on Valentines Day, but I love making it special for those special people in my life.
We ended up (unintentionally) making a lot of French food. Our morning started with some AMAZING homemade Crepes (recipe coming soon!) and we ended the night with some incredible sous vide steak. If you have never tried sous vide cooking before, its pretty much the best way to cook a perfect steak. We are hooked. The French sure know how to eat!
And of course, it wouldn’t be Valentines Day without CHOCOLATE. So. Much. Chocolate. On top of all the chocolate treats, we ended the night with a flourless dark chocolate cake (another recipe coming soon!) that was insanely chocolatey and delicious. But until that flourless chocolate cake recipe gets posted, this wonderful double dark chocolate banana bread will have to do! And it is DELICIOUS.
why we love this double dark chocolate banana bread:
We make a lot of banana bread around here. My littles love a good banana bread loaf, so I am always looking for new ways to change it up, which is when this incredible double dark chocolate banana bread was born. If you’re looking for new ways to enjoy banana bread, this is a recipe you will have to try!
With a texture that is more cake-like, this dark chocolate banana bread is super moist and tender, and is perfectly sweet and chocolaty while still keeping those subtle banana notes that we all love from a good banana bread.
Like a cross between the best chocolate muffin and banana bread, this is definitely one of the best banana bread loaves we have made!
So lets get to some basics!
Ingredients for this banana bread:
This banana loaf uses simple pantry ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt, with a few special ingredients to really give it some awesome texture and chocolaty flavor. For this recipe, we are going to add espresso powder. Espresso powder is my secret weapon when it comes to rich chocolate desserts.
Why use espresso powder?
Without adding any coffee flavor, espresso powder simply elevates the chocolate; creating a more rich, decadent chocolate flavor.
Next, we are going to use VERY RIPE bananas. Like any good banana bread, you want those bananas to be overripe. The darker the better. Trust me. The blacker the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your banana bread loaf will be. I have used straight up black bananas and the results have always been great.
Next for our wet ingredients, we are going to use butter and full fat greek yogurt. Don’t skimp on either one of these ingredients- both are vital for a super moist and flavorful loaf. Don’t have greek yogurt? Substitute with sour cream for equally delicious results.
How to make dark chocolate banana bread:
First, prepare your pan. This banana bred is very tender, so I recommend lining a 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper. Don’t have parchment paper? Make sure you really butter that bread pan!
In the bowl of a large stand mixer you’re going to beat the butter and sugar together on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 3 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula if necessary.
Add the eggs one at a time to the sugar butter mixture, and beat well between each addition. Slowly add the mashed bananas and vanilla. Mix until just combined, about 30 seconds.
In a separate bowl, whisk all the dry ingredients. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three parts, alternating between the greek yogurt and dry ingredients, until everything is just combined. Gently fold in the chocolate chips. Pour everything into the prepared loaf pan, and bake at 350 degrees F for 55-60 minutes, or until a tester inserted into the middle comes out clean.
When the dark chocolate banana bread is done baking, allow to cool in the pan for 30 minutes before removing the loaf. Enjoy!
And thats it! The most wonderful double dark chocolate banana bread EVER. 🙂
